Rental searches for pet friendly properties drop after law change

Core point

Following changes in the Renters' Rights Act, landlords in England can no longer unreasonably refuse pets in their properties. Despite this, some renters mistakenly believe that permission to have a pet is guaranteed, leading to misunderstandings. Rental searches for pet-friendly properties have dropped significantly, by over 50% in May and June compared to the previous year. Landlords can still refuse pets for valid reasons, such as allergies, property size, or leaseholder restrictions.
