Perseid meteors to light up night sky in one of the year's most active showers
Core point
The Perseid meteor shower is one of the brightest and fastest meteor showers of the year. It occurs when Earth passes through the debris of Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. The shower will peak overnight on the 12-13 August, coinciding with the new Moon for ideal viewing conditions. During its peak, up to 150 meteors per hour can be visible.
