NASA’s Curiosity Views a Sand-Capped Butte

Core point

NASA's Curiosity rover captured an image of a sand-capped butte named 'Miraflores' on June 11, 2026. The butte is approximately 20 feet tall and was formed as surrounding rock eroded over time. The image is a panorama made from 11 individual photos, adjusted to reflect Earth-like lighting conditions. Curiosity is part of NASA's Mars Exploration Program and was built by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
