AliExpress fined almost $630 million over illegal product sales
Core point
AliExpress has been fined €550 million (about $629 million) for violating the EU's Digital Services Act by failing to prevent the sale of illegal and unsafe products. This penalty is the largest imposed under the DSA to date and is more than double the fine given to rival retailer Temu for similar violations. The European Commission criticized AliExpress for not taking effective measures to reduce the dissemination of illegal products and for allocating insufficient staff to verify product safety. AliExpress has until October 20th, 2026, to remedy the breach or face additional fines.
